The 'Big Bang' Theory is still just a theory (as xyz123 pointed out). However..... It explains everything that we see in the observable Universe and so it's accepted by pretty much all of the Cosmology types.

What *isn't* known is if the total mass density of the Universe is great enough to ultimately cause all of the pieces to begin to fall back inwards in what has been called the 'Big Crunch'. It all rests on a thing called the 'Hubble Constant' and it's value (as best measured) is so close to the critical value that divides an infinite expansion (and the slow heat death of the Universe) from the Big crunch, that observational errors make our future undeterminable at the present time.

There has also been a lot of excitement lately over a theory which postulates the existence of 'dark matter' (which we can't observe) and its effect on the ultimate fate of the Universe.

Do we go out with a bang, or a whimper? Nobody knows yet.

the universe is said to be expanding day by day .our universe won't become small . the theory of big bang is hypothetical and hasn't been proved to a larger extent .there are some who don't believe in this theory.
