Sometimes I could never get my daughter to burp just by patting her back...so I would lay her down on her back and alteranate rubbing her stomach and pumping her leggs....Hold her ankles and just move her knees to and from her chests...

I would pick her up and hold her against me, with her looking over my shoulder and patted her back until she burped. (with a rag over my shoulder of course if more than just a burp comes out) Or like others have said, laying them belly down in your lap. Try all different methods. Whatever is comfortable for you and what works best for baby. Sometimes its really funny, you can actually feel the little bubbles in their tummies so you know if they haven't burped enough.

THE BEST WAY TO BURP A BABY IS LET HE OR SHE LIE FLAT FOR A MINUTE OR SO AFTER FEEDING THEN PICK UP AND PUT THEM WITH ARMS OVER YOUR SHOULDERS AND PAT THEIR BACK FIRMLY BUT NOT HARD. BUT NOT TOO SOFT EITHER.

the midwives told us the best way is to lay them down the slowly sit them up as the air bubble rise up, it sometimes worked but not all the time so we use to sit our son on our lap and have a cloth under his chin for when he spewed and just pat his back until the burp came or slowly rub up and down his back starting from bottom to top to work its way up!! goodluck!

I found that bouncing my baby on my knee and rubbing his tummy or lightly patting his back is a good way to get up air bubbles than just patting his back alone.

It depends on the baby. They're all different. The best for my two kids were on my lap facing out...with my hand supporting their chin. A light tap for a few seconds to minutes and there we had it!

what worked best for me was to sit my son on my leg and lean him over a bit and pat his back.
