Use not only detergent when washing, but add bleach to the water also. You also should wash whites in hot water.

This is what my Mom taught me and I use this method. It really works! I have VERY white clothes.

Fill the tub with hot water. Add detergent and bleach. Add clothes & let them agitate for a minute or two. Once all the clothes have agitated (they're all under water & you notice that some of migrated from the bottom to the top) SHUT OFF the machine and let the clothes soak for 1 to 2 hours.

After soaking re-start the machine. Usually the water is still warm enough to continue the washing cycle. If the water is really cool, skip through the cycle to drain. Add more hot water & more detergent (a little less this time) and wash in regular cycle.

It's a little time consuming,(which is why I only do whites once a week) but worth it. Your clothes will be snowy white. When I needed a new washer, I purposely bought a washer with a soak cycle so I wouldn't have to monitor the washer. It works great!

Oxy clean is good but I hear its not enviromently safe. When all else fails I turn to Iron Out or Rust Away. 1) Soak them in detergent and bleach with warm water
2) Soak them in white vinegar to remove antiperspirant stains
3) soak them in IRON OUT or YELLOW OUT

Either of these 3 methods will make them white, but if you want them "bright white", add BLUETTE Bluing to the rinse cycle of your white load.
