What a lot of people do not realize about the film industry, is that most film folks work free-lance. They don't work for just one studio. The only people who do are in accounting or payroll. When a studio, let's say Disney, makes a film - they hire a director, a location manager, a casting agent, etc.... all people who work free-lance. There are certain people in the industry who receive scripts and if it sounds good, they take those and pitch them to studio execs (they can because they have a standing relationship with them). So the odds of your son's script being picked up are very slim. Typically, when scripts are sent to studios, they are tossed in the trash.
My advice, tell him to hold onto it. Keep working on it too. Take screenwriting classes once he's in high school and college. He'll have opportunities to meet people in the industry, the right people, and go from there.

no, they send back scripts and story ideas with a letter saying they didn't / don't read them, so that you can't sue them if they write something similar
