Simply put, yes. But the plan if you ask the powers that be we are risking American lives to save Iraqi lives.

Partly yes....The oil interest wanted a physical presence in the middle east, and Iraq has the second largest oil fields, being Saudi Arabia. Now with a puppet government appointed, it will be open to exploitation by the oil industry that owns our current administration. This also helped out Cheney's old company, Haliburton a lot. The stock went for $8.00 a share up to around $70 a share, did a two for one split and is now ar $25.00 a share. Cheney still receives a million dollars a year in compensation from haliburton. Go figure.

Oil alone? Nahh- there are other places with more oil, and they are friendlier.
The problem with Iraq ,like the problem with Iran, or for that matter, any problem with any other nation, are normally and usually traceable to many many years ago. They are simmering, problem spots that keep the diplomats and the corporations warriors busy, dodging crisis after crises without having to resort to the military
Those diplomats are the unsung heroes dressed in suits, so to speak.
How do wars begin? They are usually economics based so perhaps one of the reasons maybe oil . When problems escalate, and diplomacy stops working, then the military gets involved.
For now, I understand that the Iraqis would really want to rebuild their country and begin their lives all over again, and the military is there to help them with that and keep the order while that is happening.

I would say yes to oil and increased worldwide terrorism is the direct result.

It is now well accepted that the invasion of Iraq was based on totally fraudulent reasons and the UN too has declared it illegal.
By coercion, compulsion, persuasion and even direct threats, the USA, ably backed by a very compliant Britain and Australia, managed to form a "coaliition of mostly unwillings" to start a war, all under the pretext of ridding Iraq of its imagined WMD and also to protect the "free" world from terrorism by linking that country to the 9/11 episode in New York. The other clarion call was to topple the brutal Saddam regime and to return Iraq to democracy.

All very moral and noble; a seemingly very just cause. But, in truth, the primamry objective has always been to obtain control of the vast Iraqi oil reserve with the added benefits of boosting military equipment production to supply the war and the rich post-war reconstruction contracts that would result.

As events unfolded following victory, the oil business was immediately parcelled out to well connected groups, likewise the multi-billion construction projects. The speed with which all this was done and still being done could be termed obscene.

What then about the WMD and 9/11 connections? None was found and none established. Saddam was caught and expeditiously consigned to the gallows after a sham trial and of course, his two equally sadisitic sons were killed well before.

What about the country itself? Bush's "Misision Accomplished" brought with it increasing sectarian strifes and a blooddy insurgency. The most noticeable results of the war of liberation are the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi dead and wounded, accompanied by more than 3200 US deads and thousands more wounded and maimed while the devastation of the countnry has been horrendous.

What about the much talked about democracy and progressive reforms? A so-called free and fair general election produced a coterie of those elected who could hardly agree on how the country ought to be governed, forming a government more divisive than united and headed by an ineffectual prime minister.

In short, Iraq is in no way discernibly better off than when under the dead dictator who, incidentally, was actually created and nurtured by the USA.

While Saddam was repressive and alleged to be directly responsible for the arrest, imprisonment, torture, disappearance, rape and death of thousands, the situation today is almost identical save that the perpetrators are allied troops, its civilian adminstrators and Iraqi police and military recruited and trained by the allies themselves.

Iraqi has since the invasion witnessed far more deaths than Saddam's twenty plus years as dictator. Those imprisoned and tortured were no less in number. All this has been carried out legitimately unless of course, when found out such as the occurences in the prisons run by the US military.

In short, the allies have done far more damage to Iraq and committed more crimes against humanity than Saddam ever did. Besides devastating and corrupting the country, the allies, mainly the USA, also rob it of its resources. It is almost like medieval days when the rights of the victors to kill, rape and pillage were unquestioned. So much for the moral high ground of those who invaded Iraq and the democracy they introduced.

Sadly, there is unlikely an end to the carnage in Iraq any time soon. The worsening situation seems beyond the allies' control and there is also no honourable way for them to extricate themselves. The likely scenario is that the allies particularly the USA, will admit " Mission Accomplished" has turned into "Mission Impossible", accept defeat and flee, leaving the country in the worst possible state than ever before to fend for itiself. Bush will find that his military (mis)adventure has been a costly one in terms of American lives and money which at the end will draw to an ignominous close.

The final interesting question is whether Bush, Blair and Howard will be brought before The Hague to be tried for crimes against humanity. They should. What they have individually and collectively done aptly fit what they had accused Saddam of. Indeed, the crimes that Saddam was accused of paled significantly in comaprison with what these three 'leaders" have
committed and are still committing.

Thus if there is justice which they so loudly claimed, then their ultimate conviction is a matter of course. Another interesting observation is whether any of these three would so bravely face their hangman as Saddam did.

Those in our government who directed this "death and violence in Iraq" like Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz, planned this all out
before the 2000' election. They have a website http://www.newamericancentury.org/ that describes it, and their membership, in detail. It is definitely about the fact that there is oil in the region. There are many places in the world where countries have brutal dictators, and many more civilians are killed, and you don't hear a peep from the White House about sending troop to those countries. There is a reason why we have military bases stretching from Egypt to Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan. It is no coincidence that this is the largest concentration of oil in the world.
That our invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq have greatly increased the number of Islamic "terrorists" is no accident either.

no, the bulk of the oil comes from other countries other than Iraq.
the price of oil is all due to a maonopoly of the oil companies.
we have many oil fields in this counrty that have been closed down for a decade or more.
those of us over 50 remember the so called gas shortage of the 70 s when we could not get gas without setting in long lines for hours or many times could not get gas at all.
the war has defininately been mismanaged and yes has risen the death toll, but we must support our young men who R giving their lives so we can have our freedom preserved.
They definately need a change in stratagy over there, but the I raq war, is not at all about oil, it is the result of poor intellenge reports and poor advisement to the preseident. we should have hit Afganistan, hard, the alcadia, are now everywhere, all countries recuiting young misguided youth to do their dirty work, like suicide bombings and other atrocities carried out in many counrties

I disagree with the execution with the Iraq War, but I don't assume to know the intentions of the Bush Administration

One minute, it's for oil. The next minute, it's because "they tried to kill my daddy". Now, it's because they wanted to create terrorism?

Whatever the intention, we did a good thing by removing Saddam from power, not because of WMDs or 9/11, but because he was one of the worst dictators of the last 50 years. We did it very, very poorly, but we still did a good thing.

So you're welcome for my answer.

Look more like primitive living human kind with clubs on their shoulders still living in caves in clubbing another living human kind like themselves living in misery in making a monkey out of themselves in planet of apes.
Ever wonder what went wrong with them while other tribes of different community were all at loss and blurr with what went wrong out there in planet of apes.

Well, canada and mexico supply 1/2 of American oil by themselves, and the other 1/2 is provided by saudi arabi, nigeria, and venezuela, so Im going to have to say no to the oil, and global terrorism was created by islamic states.
Oppresion created global terrorism.
