I own a shop, and have seen this, fixed this, and know what it takes to get it running. I got one running that had sit for 30 years. It smoked like the woods was on fire, but I got her running. What happens is the rings are rusted, and stuck to the cylinder walls, and if you aren't careful you will break a few of them. Remove the spark plugs, drain the oil leaving the drain plug out, and fill the cylinders with WD-40, or sea-foam. Anything that has a rust inhibitor in it will work well. Let it set with the cylinders full for several days. It will drain down into the oil pan, so you need to keep putting it in there to let it do its job. Use a breaker bar on the crank bolt, or even better if you can use a long screw driver on the flywheel from under the car with the dust cover removed. You can pry the flywheel back, and forth with much more torque than you could ever with the harmonic balancer. Besides you may twist the bolt off in the crank, and it will for sure be scrap from there. Keep moving the flywheel/flex-plate back and forth for a long time, so as to not break the rings. It will come free after a long time of this, but if it is salvageable, you will only know this once you get it running. Once it frees up, you will want to turn the engine over by hand for several rotations to push the oil out of the cylinders. Let it set for a few hours in its new position in order for the rings to free up some from the pistions, as you know they are stuck there too. Replace the drain plug, the oil, and turn it some gently with the starter for about two revolutions each time, while letting it sit between turning for a few minutes. It should spin pretty fast with the spark plugs out, so you don't want to turn it so much it breaks the rings. The rings will cut a new pattern in the cylinder walls, so it's a good idea to give it more WD-40 to help wash the build up out the spark plug holes. Leave the spark plugs out until you get it freed up. I forgot to mention, when you replace the oil, purchase a quart can of some stuff called Riselone, and add to the oil, but don't overfill the crankcase. Let the engine sit over night, and if possible install some new spark plugs. Before you do this, spin the engine over several times with the starter to make sure it will spin free, and to bring the oil pressure up enough to pump up the lifters. Now, install the plugs, give it some fuel, and it should fire. If not then get some starting fluid and give it a shot or two of that, and it should fire. Keep the idle speed at a very minimum until it has warmed up some. It will smoke very bad, so you need it in a place where it won't choke you to death. This should work fine.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Look at the weight of that 3000GT. And front wheel drive sucks. all wheel drive VR better even more weight. Nissan question it is possable to install a V-8 in a 240sx. You have to expect about 6 months of fitting removing refitting making a new instrument cluster. About 2 to 3 weeks just to modify the original cars wiring. I own a 2006 Pontiac GTO 6 speed with 6.0 liter V-8. Factory warranty very fast. And everything works. Hot rods like you are thinking about some end up garage projects that never end so don't start unless you really want to spend lots of money and see the project to the end. Then you will find out the rear axle cannot take more than 200 hp.

The engine ran fine before it sat idle for so long? Anyway, remove all the spark plugs, squirt penetrating oil into each cylinder, - don't be shy- let it sit for a day or so and then attempt to turn the engine by hand. If it remains 'frozen' then you're most likely going to have to remove the heads and see why.

When you remove the plugs, look at each one, if one or two are wet, find out with what. Wipe each one with a clean white paper towel and see if you get oil or coolant. Based on what you've described, it sounds as if coolant has entered one cylinder and you have a "hydro lock" in the engine.

On an engine that has sat idle for a long time, always pull the spark plugs, oil the cylinders, and the turn the engine by hand before attempting to start. If you can't 'roll' the engine over by hand with no plugs, something is wrong.

This doesn't sound good at all. It could be any number of things, that you can't diagnose until you do get into it. Best advice? Go buy a small block you know will run (they are not all that expensive...check your local junkyard), and replace what you need to on it. At least you won't worry about what's wrong internally. This will probably be much cheaper than buying a new vehicle (since 78 is basically "old" now). Just my 2 cents worth.

well if it sat for tat long and never has been started till then and it had gas you might wanna look at that and check like every part for problems and its not the best thing to keep starting a car well attempting to if it doesnt start after like 3-4 times it wont after 20 so just chill on it and just go through and make sure oil is in it gas and make sure theres no old gas and just check all the parts pretty much or take it to a mechanic

You should have shot oil into each spark plug hole before turning it over.

remove ALL the sparkplugs so there is no pressure in the cylinders when you try to crank it over again.

There may also be water in one of the cylinders. How was the engine oil? (water in it?) Overfull?

ADDED: mark each sparkplug wire so you know where the went. Cyl. #1, 3, 5 ,7...2, 4, 6, 8,

yes it sound like the motor is froze up.,, i found if you remome all the spark plug,an use wd40 in in plug hole ,it some time will free the motor, but still the rings on the piston, will still but stuck,, but it will give you a change to rebuild the motor, after a few day try working the motor back an forth till it turn free
