In case of a hurricane, your best bet is to move to a solid structure with as few exterior windows on the highest ground you can find. Most hurricane-related deaths are caused by flooding and storm surge.
In case of a tornoado, get in an interior part of the building, even a closet, under a bed, or somewhere you will be protected from flying debris.
I would go by myself. I'll take books or magazines, food, water, first aid kit, a flashlight, cell phone, and toilet paper.

In a tornado there is no time to evacuate. You fined a hole or a basement.
Hurricane any thing over a 2 get out with your family if you are near the shore. You move in with friends or family for a day or two.

We have cyclones here and if a Category 5 or more? should threaten our township, there are a number of buildings throughout the town that we can go to. In my case, it would be a short drive/walk to the college. My partner and two teenage children would be with me. We are instructed to take our own water and enough food for a couple of days. Thankfully, we haven't had to go through these procedures.

my place was recently devastated by by heavy flooding due to heavy rains and poor drainage system. our neighborhood seemed the legendary city of atlantis that disappeared underwater. i just make sure my family (my wife and my 1 year old baby) evacuate early. all the males in our neighbothood took turns i patrolling the place with makeshift canoes and rafts! we enjoyed the whole week drinking beer above the roots of our houses.

I would haul @ss out of there...
Parents and 3 cats .1dog.1bird. (i think id leave the fish is that cruel?) would be with me
I'd take bascially nething i can get my hands on...personal things..would include my digi cam (aspiring photographer) journals (ive kept one since 2nd grade) this heart box from Costa Rica that holds a piece of my grandpa's hair....and try and lug my photo printer out too haha...

I would take care of myself and not beg the Federal government for assistance because of my stupidity.
