"The Three Masons" is a lesson in psychological/spiritual character development:

Three Masons

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adapted by Tedd Koren, DC
An onlooker sees three masons hard at work.

He walks over to the first mason and says, "Excuse me, sir, what are you doing?"

The mason glares at him, takes his cigar out of his mouth and says, "What am I doing? I'm stacking bricks. What does it look like I'm doing?"

He thanks the man for his time and moves on to the second mason. "Excuse me sir, what are you doing?"

The second mason puts down his tools and with a sigh says, "What am I doing? What I'm doing is supporting my family."

He thanks the man and moves on to the third mason. "Excuse me sir, what are you doing?"

The third mason looks at his questioner, looks at his handiwork, and then looks toward the sky. "What am I doing? I'm building a cathedral."

In psychology, the first mason's response is from his "id", the second mason's response is from his "ego" and the third mason's response is from his "super-ego"

I think you are referring to the murder of Hiram Abiff and the discovery of his body by the Three Masters. Here's a summary:

"When Saba, the Queen of Sheba, visited King Solomon, she was much attracted to Hiram; and Solomon became jealous. He arranged with three workmen--Fanor, a Syrian Mason; Amru, a Phoenician carpenter; and Metusael, a Hebrew quarryman--to disrupt the casting of the brazen sea. The spilled molten metal would have killed Hiram, except that he was saved by the spirit of his ancestor, Tubal Cain.

Saba and Hiram fled. Hiram threw his jewel down a deep well, but he was taken by the assassins and killed by a blow to the head. They buried his body on a hill and planted an acacia
bush on the grave.

Three masters later discovered his body. The account of the exclamations made by those who found the body of Hiram are the same as those given in an exposure of our ritual in the
early part of the eighteenth century. There is even an account of an agreement concerning future action by masons to compensate for the loss of the word which had been inscribed on
Hiram's jewel."

This forms the basis for the allegorical story of how Freemasonry was founded. It has nothing to do with the Templars as such, except that the there is a plausible theory that the Masons evolved from the Templars after the Templars were suppressed in Europe.

Hope this helps

I don't know about the three masons but the Free Masons did evolve from the Knights Templar's. You got it right. See the following interesting article:

Freemasonry is an oath bound fraternal order of men which derives from the medieval fraternity of Freemasonry. We adhere to many of the Ancient Charges customs and legends of operative Freemasonry. We are loyal to the civilian government under which we exist. We inculcate moral and social virtues by symbolic application of the operative stonemasons' working tools and by allegories lectures and charges. Freemasonry obligates its members to obey the principles of brotherly love, equality, mutual aid, secrecy and confidence. We have secret modes of recognition that permit members to recognize each other as brothers. We require through examination into the mental, moral and physical qualifications of a petitioner and we admit men into the fraternity by secret ceremonies based in part on legends of the Craft.

Once a person has decided to apply for membership he fills out a petition signed by 2 members of the Lodge he desires to join. He gives the petition to one of the members along with the required initiation fee. the petition is read at the next stated meeting and the Worshipful Master appoints an investigating committee who will interview the petitioner in person. the investigating committee will report back to the lodge at the next stated meeting where the petitioner is voted on. Once accepted he is given the three degrees of Entered Apprentice - Fellow Craft and the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason. There are certain requirements which a candidate must meet before proceeding from one degree to the next.

One must obtain the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason before he is allowed to wear any Masonic jewelry.

One must have a belief in a Supreme Being.

The tenets of Freemasonry are " Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. "

The Masonic Fraternity is NOT a Secret Society but rather a Society with Secrets.

The Masonic fraternity is NOT Satanic in nature.

Suggest if you are interested in pursuing interest in the Masonic Fraternity if over the age of 18 you contact a man whom you know is a Mason for further information and a petition. if under 18 suggest you inquire about the DeMolay Organization.

If no local Masonic Lodge is available then contact the Grand Lodge of Masons in the State in which you reside.

Your question is confusing. Which three masons are you referring to? Are you thinking of the Quatuor Coronati who were in fact 4, or is it a mixup of regular masonry and rosicrucianism?
