you need a car for everything. it's impossible to do anything if you can't drive or don't have a car.
I hated when in middle and highschool it was hard to do stuff w/o your parents taking you everywhere.

I walked everywhere I went when I was a teen . I lived 5 miles from town and went everyday . The beach was 3 miles down the road, but the one in town 8-10 miles away was always more exciting. Suck it up and quit whinning.

Yes, it's a problem in all but the best cities. What's really sad is that far more, smaller cities used to have great public transit, but some auto and tire companies got together and put the public transit out of business so that they could sell more cars and tires! My best suggestion--try to move to a place with good public transit (like DC--that place rocks!) and/or keep bugging your local city council to consider improving theirs. If we as a country want to cut down on fuel consumption, it's an obvious solution.

You don't need a car everywhere in the US, only the places that do not have a good public transit system. Actually in San Francisco, and New York and other large cities with good public transit cars are a huge hassle!! NOT needed at all!

That's the way your country is, if you're poor, you're ******. I think you call it: "freedom".

I live in a so-called "third-world country". When I was 15 years old (in my country the legal age to drive is 18) I could go to anywhere alone using public transport. I still use public transport even though I'm 20 by now.

I agree! I live in CA and we don't even have a bus. My parents have to drive me to school everyday. I can't even drive yet so it's very uncomfortable. Especially if I get into fights with my parents, I can only storm up to my room. And with the gas prices and those crazy teens (that give all teens a bad impression) who drive like maniacs.
