If you have a cultral likeness the up or down side of careers are the bosses will tend to place you in the same group for services. What I mean by this is say you are a repair person:
You are green with gray eyes - the boss assumes you will relate to like people and send you more to these type of contacts.
This can be good or bad, as some of my associates keep getting sent to the rougher side of town.
. In a way it does work, however your career may be static. This applies to other careers then the field services however I am most familar with them.

I think mainly these factors are dictated by education.
Of course, different educations are available to social and cultural groups, and in that way one can read career choices as a social outcome.
Example: a lower income family will not have access (or only limited) to good education. the kids will be limited to local, public schools, and not have access to after school activities - music, language lessons, school support, etc. This will limit opportunities: of course an exceptional student will overcome this handicap, but in many cases it will not, so will not succeed in SATs, will not get into prestigious college (and could not pay for it anyway), and the choice of career will be determined in the end by the initial lower economic income.

Social and cultural factors influence everything we do. We are, each one of us, a product of our life's experiences. Sometimes career choices are made for us...certainly the result of cultural and social factors. Sometimes we make our own career choices. When we make them as youngsters we are often guided by our experiences...which are shaped by our culture and our social lives. When we make career choices at an older age, sometimes they are the result of what we have drifted into. Again our drifting will be guided by, affected by our social and cultural heritage. Whatever your race or culture or social surroundings, you will be influenced by them. You can't help it. It's the way the world works.

If your black, black culture usually pushes the young to be singers or sports players. Sometimes they're pushed to be lawyers and in business. I chose a much different route for a black guy.
