no, that was the old way, after you peel the avocado then clean the seed and let it dry for a few days, then pot it up in potting soil, water it good and put in a sunny location, you will have a beautiful tree in no time (be sure to water often)

Get yourself a short glass and 3 or 4 toothpicks. Stick the toothpicks into the seed about halfway down. These toothpicks are going to hold the weight of the seed by lying along the edge of the glass. Then make sure there is water about halfway up and watch it sprout and grow roots.When it has a few established roots you can pot it up. It is good to pinch out a few of the new top leaves, that will encourage the plant to grow more branches.

Poke 3 or 4 toothpicks into yhe pit.place the large end of the pit onto a glass ,and fill glass with water until 1/4-1/2" of the large end is covered. To try and grow a tree, after roots grow and top sprouts-transplant into a pot with potting soil.

find a glass or a jar not too much bigger than the seed, then take three good sturdy round toothpicks and stick into the seed at regular intervals about half way down the seed, fill the jar up with water and then sit the seed in the opening with the toothpicks keeping it from sinking into the jar, put in a sunny window, and there you go, you can put a little water soluable plant food in the water too.
