How did you like the movie Falling Down? I thought the moments when Michael Douglas was on screen were really good and he gave in a really great performance.

But however there were some of the scenes I could've done without with Pendergrass dealing with his pesky wife and I also could've done without the scenes when they're in the police department, I thought it kept the movie from being an all time classic and I've felt that there should've been more scenes with Michael Douglas.

What are your thoughts?

I believe that Falling Down is a dangerous movie.
I personally think that it was the birth of justified rage in the West. Putting a familiar spin on the lone nut (he just wanted to be with his kid, after all, right?) suddenly tells everyone that it is okay to lash out at anyone and anything that vaguely annoys us, or gets in our way, whether or not they are even aware there is a problem.
I understand that it is just a movie, but not everyone does. It conveys a message, and society was severely hurt by that movie's message. I admit, when I was a teenager, that movie came out, and I thought it was brilliant. I grew up, though, but it seems a lot of people didn't.
Yeah, we all have bad days, and yeah, the bills pile up. We all have to take a bite out of the big **** sandwich, but yet, some people have assumed that they are special enough that they can go on a rampage, and be able to explain themselves after the fact. The movie suggests we regard him as some sort of hero, because he showed that Nazi a thing or two.
No cop will listen to you when you have been terrorizing people for a whole day. No one will understand how angry you are, or how much you love your kids when you don't behave yourself. But yet, you always see people beaking off to some poor kid wearing a nametag who is saving up his college tuition. You always read about people bringing guns into crowded areas and picking strangers off like carnival ducks. Kids join gangs because they can't handle the other gangs on their own. Dual income families can barely afford to stay afloat, let alone stay together. No one has any idea what their loved ones are doing, they are so tied up in busywork.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that rage became the common man's vice once we handed all of our rights and responsibilities over to the government.
Is it too late for human decency, kindness and self-respect?
Whatever.

I thought it was a hit and miss, the scenes with Michael Douglas was very good but the scenes without Michael Douglas were forgettable, I do agree with you that Pendergrass's pesky wife did get annoying and she was one character I also could've without.

I thought it was a really good movie although I thought some of the scenes in the detective's office kind of dragged a bit, I think that Michael Douglas did an excellent job with his role and it was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen, plus the movie seemed really realistic.

I thought he was the good guy cause you've had to feel sorry for him for all of the abuse and the treatment he has endured all throughout the entire film and I know a little bit of love can really help a person

I think the movie stunk. It was a Taxi Driver rip off without teeth. The whole angry white man thing strikes me as incredibly silly. You could tell they added the scene where he kills the nazi to avoid accusations of racism. The director...Joel Schumaker....is easily one of the most derivative and least talented directors in film. He's the one responsible for giving batman nipples. What else needs to be said. That movie was a total waste of Robert Duvall.

I thought it was a very intelligent black comedy. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I just love the scene where he wants to order from the breakfast menu.
