Have you tried placing a deep purple amethyst under your pillow?
Amethyst has been used for centuties to prevent nightmares in Europe.
I would recommend you add two other stones under your pillow with the amethys agate, and obsidian.

Nightmares are not always fixable with "drugs".
1) Are your worried about something?
2) Are you eating to heavily too close to bed time?
3) Are you eating foods you are allergic too (poisoning yourself)?
4) I can't tell your sex. Are your hormones inbalance? The ratio of Estrogen to Progestrone really affects sleeping.
5)Are you getting enough exercise & fresh air?
6) Are you reading overly scary Negative books
or watching overly negative or scary TV shows or Movies?
We are very complicated & all the things we put in our bodies & minds also touch our souls. Nightmares have many different origins. No amount of yoga, etc will touch them if the root of the problem is something else.
I have VIVID dreams not all always 100% comfortable, as a child I had regular nightmares. I am a "Sensitive" & make my living as an artist(imagination). Both fuel a strong dream life. I have found the things listed above play a large role in my health..both physically & mentally.
When my sleep cycle is too off I do use Melatonin tablets & Chamomile Tea
Lots of luck.

Are U sure it's nightmares and not Psychic Attack? If it's Psychic Attack.. U can break that with cold glass of water.. get up the moment U notice the nightmare or attack coming no matter how tired U are and go get a glass of cold water. Some claim banana helps too but haven't tried that!

I think there are underlying conditions causing this maybe something happend to you? you might not want to talk to a therapist but you know what worked for me? Take a book and discuss your what happend wirte to yourself just to clear it to not keep it bottled up. nightmares are not normal. if there is no problem or it doesnt work try a very LOW dose of prozac i use 5mg when i had this problem it helped me sleep nightmare free and i didnt have any other side effects and really didnt notice any other change besides that. i slept alot better and actually i think it helped me loose weight and other things becuase i was sleeping better. sometimes natural remidies are good but not enough. try something called valarian root its smells like cat **** but it dose settle nerves and help with meletonin and seratonin. try it.

It's called "policing your mind". I have a mental disorder and one of the major additional stressors is that it causes intense nightmares. I spent 30 years waking up crying, panting, I even stopped breathing, wet the bed, etc. it was awful. But, when you lay down at night, talk to yourself. Tell yourself you will not be thinnking of the awful things you usually dream about. Tell yourself you will think only happy thoughts or nothing at all. Also, if you are religious, ask "god" to please help you not have nightmares, to take away the frightening images that haunt you, ask your spirit guide for help with this also, you can even ask your angels, your passed on family, everyone on the other side. It will work! You just have to be convincing to yourself that YOU have the power to decide what you dream about.

Tried changing your diet? Get off all medications, with doctors approval.
Do not eat before bed. TV being on might interfere with sleep.
I would slowly take out things in your diet and see if you notice changes. Milk, breads, junk food (fast food same thing). Spicy foods. My nightmares were due to a reaction to a drug the doctor had me on. Quit the drug and no more nightmares. Good luck finding your trigger...

some good suggestions so far..
you can get these teas at the health food store, and they both have a really mild flavor..hope this helps you..you must be exhausted..Catnip: Internally for relief of colic, fever and chills, headache, stomach ache, soothes nerves yet is a mild stimulant, aids in relief of nightmares, promotes menstrual discharge.
Chamomile: Internally for colic, diarrhea, stomach ache, earache, toothache, heartburn, soothes nerves, aids in relief of nightmares, aids digestion, promotes menstrual discharge, in large doses induces vomiting. Externally as an antiseptic and astringent.
Valerian, i would get capsules of this, the tea tastes really bitter, but it works to help induce relaxation and sleep. also relieves menstrual cramping..
good luck.

I know this is going to sound super silly and you might think it may not work but please try it...First get a cartoon DVD with about 15-30 minutes of good visual graphics..I like sponge-bob or Fantasia. watch them right before bed...I know strange but it works...I also suffered with BAD nightmares and I tried everything and this finally worked..I also talk to myself and say I will not dream of....(whatever) I will not feel out of control tonight. I will wake up the min. I realize that I am having a bad dream...It works too...Now try it. I also heard but haven't tried that lemon grass tea with mint and honey..hmmm sounds tasty huh? good luck....let us know how it turns out.

before you sleep, calm your mind of the tensions.
If you have any tensions write them in a book. you can name it "worry book".This is where you reveal your tensions by writing them down.
Also pray before you sleep.
And put a photo of God under your pillow.
