I don't think, they should be able to do that and here's why.

These people can, especially ones who are million or gazillionares, afford to purchase the free thingys themselves, and not have to attend an awards show or whatever, in order to recieve those gifts.

What I think regarding that is, the famous people should instead after getting them and paying the taxes on them, pass these things off, to people less fortunate as them, who'm they think would enjoy one of their items or, say if this person has a fan club or something like that, have a drawing of one type or another for the members in it, so they can recieve, some of the gifts from their swag.

What do you think? Please, let me know, and thanks

I disagree. A lot of people are sheep and will buy something just because they see their favorite celebrity using it. "Swag" is an inexpensive way for a company to promote their products without having to pay the celebrities large amounts of money to make commercials, print ads, or become an official spokesperson. Because of the crazy society that we live in, famous people's "celebrity status" is a valuable commodity. If we put such a value on what they wear, drive and use, they might as well get a little something (i.e. the swag) out of the deal.

Most famous people do pass along the freebies that they receive to their friends and family members. If they distributed them to their fan club members through an official contest, the recipients would still have to pay taxes on the gift (even if the celebrity has already paid taxes for receiving the items). The latest trend is for celebrities to auction their swag for charity. Here are 2 links for auctions of Sundance freebies:

Companies that give out trips, spa treatments and things like that put the specific celebrities name on the certificate so that no one else can redeem it. They couldn't re-gift those items even if they wanted to.

Swag stands for "Stuff We Ain't Got"

It's a promotional thing.

If someone famous is seen using one of the free products, it's like an endorsement and it doesn't cost the providers nearly as much as it would cost to get the celebrities to do an ad for the product.

I really don't care that they get that kind of stuff. Most of it is overhyped junk that nobody "needs", much less a poor person anyway.

they dont get this stuff for nothing. Its also a way to attract them to events and as a "thank-you for your presence"
