Has anyone been turned down by a college because they were too SMART? We are talking about an IQ of 160, finishing high school by age 10, and only missing ONE question on the ACT... The rumor has it the refusal came because the professors did not want to look like idiots when questioned by a 11 year old. If you can answer in KOREAN, it would really help....

A good college should look for more than just academic potential. If this kid was turned down, I would suspect the college had concerns about his maturity, liklihood of sucess at their college, ability to contribute to group education, etc. I know that there are pre-teens that go to college, but it would have to be a special circumstance with more than just his intelligence in question. As for professors not wanting to look stupid - there are all kinds of professors and I'm sure there are some like that. But I would seriously doubt that the admissions department would make a decision for that reason. Cant write it in Korean.

I haven't heard this story. It could be that it's an "urban legend" and never happened. As far as geniuses go 160 is all that high an IQ so I can't see why colleges would keep out a student because of it. Besides that, kids who graduate out of high school when they are 12 or so aren't that uncommon and they are allowed in the universities all the time.

only a complete idiot would send an 11 year old to college. they are not prepared for it physically, emotionally or mentally.

if you want a trained seal to provide answers to arcande questions then that's great, but education is more than doing math problems and analyzing lit.

it is the growth of the person. if they aren't prepared mentally for it then you are wasting your time and damaging the kid.

the kid will turn out warped, i guarantee it.

let the kid play with their peers. they will develop much better that way. besides, what's the rush.

Sorry, don't know Korean, but my guess is that this is just a rumor. Universities are essentially really big businesses, and this kid would give them fame, money, research grants, etc. Just to have a kid like that in their alumni makes them look good.
