There is sometimes an option in your email client or online service to receive a "read receipt". However, read receipts only work if the person you're sending it too is using the same email service. Also, some services have options to allow the recipient to ignore sending you a read receipt.

So in other words, there are very few options and no guarantees.

If your are using Microsoft Outlook Express or Outlook Express

You can go to Options. You would have 2 options
1.Request a Delivery Receipt.
2. Request a Read Receipt.

Further more you would have an Option under the Actions menu " Flag for Follow up"

You have different options under it.

You can select Flag for Read, Flag for Reply etc.

So once the user receives the mail the Email client would remind the user to follow up and remind him.

most email clients allow you to request a receipt when the email has been opened by the recipient. This is of course not fool proof as the person opening the email could simply refuse to send a receipt.
