No! It's a fallacy that human blood attracts sharks. Fish blood drives 'em crazy; into a frenzy.
If you'll notice, sharks don't eat people. Whenever you hear of a shark attack on a human, it's never more than a bite because once the shark tastes the blood of a human, it goes away. Splashing is what initially attracts a shark in the first place, (like a fluttering, wounded fish), and it follows these "vibrations" in for a closer look but, sharks have poor eyesight and mistakenly bites at the object that is splashing. I've been in many shark-infested waters with all sorts of cuts that were bleeding and while the sharks might show some curiosity, they certainly never became aggressive - in fact, they never even came any closer than about 10 feet at best. They're chicken! And, all being said and done... they're basically just another fish in the sea!
(Just don't SPLASH!!!)

Maybe - I know it will increase the risk of being attacked by a female mammal like a Lion or a Tiger... some people with these animals as pets have found out the hard way.

Wild female animals become anxious when they smell a female cycle in the proximity - their defense instincts raise up and it makes them want to protect their young ones from potential predators (even if they don't have young ones to protect).

Another interesting tidbit - there are no blood platelettes in a womans menses... it's red but it is not the same as blood. But any bodily fluid in the water (including urine) could be detected by a wide range of sea life in the area.

Yes it does. Sharks can smell a single drop of blood up to a quarter of a mile away- it doesn't matter where the blood is coming from or if it's human or not.

I would venture to say any scent of blood would not be a good idea in the midst of shark-infested waters!

I think so cos it is blood anyway! It smells to us, how couldn`t it be detected by a shark? The thing is, do you really go swimming when you have your period? It is not very healthy!

Most definitely. Also brings up a funny story about my ex sister in law, she was on her period, we were at the zoo and went up to the chimpanze area, two ran over and started pounding their puds and screaming right in front of her.
