isnt it really about letting the other know that you love them and want to be with them or mabey how much you care. why do people think they got to spend money on them to let them know. some people i know acually feel real bad cause they cant afford to get thier others a nice present. this whole holiday of love is kinda startin to crap out into a holiday of commercialism if ya ask me? let your love know your love not your finacial status.

yea i totally agree. it turns into a vicious and inescapable cycle. your counterpart gets you real expensive gift and then you feel totally weird that you cant get tem somethingas good. then you save money and get them something btr, and then they try to top that....it just goes on an on. i totally dont belive in expensive gifts unless its something really special. and you should never feel compelled to get something btr next time.
i think part of it is human competitiveness, and then theres commercialization of love...and i guess as you get over and love fades, the gifts kinda help keep the faith??
i dont exactly kno the reasons, but the whole thin g is ridiculous!

I agree.... I think some people give expensive physical things to make up for something they don't give in other aspects of their relationship. My ex-fiance was like that, but I didn't want things and I wasn't impressed...I wanted his love and a stable relationship....hence EX-fiance..

Yeah, I'd rather be poor and happy with love than have "things" and feel hollow.

I would be really happy with nothing at all and him just telling me that he loves me. But I also would be happy with a bouquet of wild flowers! He'll probably get me that for my birthday though, Every year for my b-day he gets them for me delivered to my job. Its on Feb 11.

Valentines Day is a celebration of love...it's a day to show your loved one how much you care....an entire day when you can profess your love....it's not about expensive gifts and flowers and chocolates....a day meant to celebrate love and share it all around...
