Women can wear any type of panty on their period, g-string, thong, bikini, hipster, boyshort, "granny panty". Tampons free up the possibilities, so the only question is, what's most comfortable for the female to wear?

they can wear whatever they feel comfortable in. i would think most girls want to be in giant sweatpants & big clothing... you usually don't feel your sexiest during that time. But if you're used to wearing those types of underwear, it shouldn't be uncomfortable. Especially if you wear tampons -- you can't feel 'em.
