It's a Compaq 7790DMT, with an Intel MMX cpu. I want to install XP on there, but I don't know which button opens the computer's BIOS screen when booting up. Also, the cd-rom does not read the XP install disc, when I reset the power button. Can somebody tell me how to correct the problem, best answer get my 10 points !!!!

the button to enter the BIOS varies between computers. for hp and compaqs tho, you can usually press F10. If your cd rom cannot read the XP disc, i don't see how you can install XP. There could be a number of things that are wrong with your computer. I would try to change the boot order so it checks your cd drive first. You can find this under the BIOS settings.

Normally to get into the bios you need to hit either F2 or F10. Normally when you boot it up as soon as it comes on just start tapping it until the bios comes up. Once inside switch the boot sequence to boot from CD first, toss the XP disk in and save settings. If the disk doesn't read after that I'm not sure what to tell you other than check the disk for marks and scratches... also look to see if there is an led indicator light on the cd rom, it should light up if its reading.

there are different BIOS, Normally when you reboot the computer it'll tell you to press F1, F2, F8 or DELETE Button. if not try DELETE. just keep pressing it until the bios comes up. them setup the bios to start with 1. CD ROM, 2. floppy ( if you have one) 3. Hard Drive. Keep the XP CD in the drive when you restart. make sure the CD is in good condition maybe it have scratches

Hit the F10 hey several times after powering up the machine.

Once in the BIOS, make sure it is set to boot from the CD before it tries the hard drive.

the buttons to enter bios screen should appear on the computer screen when it is booting. There is more info on reinstallation on link below. Remember that when it is booting , it asks you to press any key on the keyboard to boot from the cd, if you don't then it automatically starts booting from the hard disk

Try 'F10', 'Delete', 'F2' or 'F12' and see since this was old model.
