I remember this back in 1960s Jr High. The only reason I've heard is laughable . . . to keep lint out of the pool filter. Seriously, what was this all about? Fight prudery? Shyness? Give boys opportunity to "compare" and humiliate? Coach gets his jollys?

Hey, this commercial karate chain I know of, has been accused of sexual assault on minors lots of times. Coach definitely got his jollies....
YMCA explains it all.... all the young masses huddle together and the coach breathes free while the tempest-tossed into the pool get violated by the lamp beside the golden door....
