Why is a "little black dress" considered festive but anything else is considered depressing/funereal?

Yah the LBD is for if you can't decide what to wear you just throw it on and you always look fabulous. Its simple, effective and easy...thats why Coco Chanel invented it when all the dress' at the time were huge and pretencious.

I consider black chic and clean. I love to wear black and it looks good on everyone and goes with everything. It's the easiest way to get dressed because you can just add colour where you want it.

Little black dress is not neccessarily festive, it's just an all-purpose garment that is very useful to have in a wardrobe. You can wear it to a wedding, funeral, date, whatever. Maybe not to class or grocery shopping, just more formal occasions. That's my understanding anyway.
