I think if you really look at the complexity of our human experience it is highly unlikely that your consciousness is under the control of someone else outside this "system."
But, if you really think about the nature of physical reality and our place in it, really all of this physical matter and all the practically infinite number of reactions and interactions going on from the subatomic level all the way up through the most vast scales of intergalactic space, perhaps it is entirely possible that you could think of this physical reality as a "matrix" taking place inside the ultimate "cosmic supercomputer" which some might call the "mind of GOD" or the "fabric of the Universe."
There are rules, and there is all this energy which on some higher level you could think of as data, and it behaves according to the rules, and the program plays itself out.
Just be careful not to get too deep into thinking of this reality as a big game, because ultimately it is very significant and not to be wasted on frivolity or inappropriate indulgence in wastefulness, but rather to be relished and played to the fullest enjoyment, as it is all extremely sacred.
I would use the "computer game" model as merely that, only as a conceptual model with which to think of the Universe. But it can be a very useful model at that. Just a very very complex program, if you want to think of it that way.

I sure hope not, that is a pointless game and a waste of computer memory. It annoys me that it is so close to life and yet people waste so many of their lives on it. While other games allow you to enter a different life, the Sims is a game which is based entirely on life! Why bother playing a game when you can simply live your life?
My point is, why bother asking? You experience what you experience and your decisions are your own, even if life being a video game is true. You are always in control, of your own life and in video games.
