For money and there is a lack of good Hollywood writers that can come up with original and good story lines.

Horror is cheap to make and people always go to see it. It's all about $$$$. The reason they are doing remakes is that it is a proven commodity. They don't want to spend on anything fresh that is unproven. Across the board it is very hard for something original that isn't an adaptation or a remake to get made.
It's because the uncreative MBAs of the world have taken over the movie biz. I miss the self-made moguls! The last one of those is Harvey Weinstein. And his picks are usually dead on. He is his own marketing focus group. He's the last old school movie magnate.
They need to stop though. It's boring.

It's all about the money of course! There are some good points about remaking older films. Newer technology, new points of view of the directors, modern settings, etc. The originals will always be "classics" but it doesn't mean the remakes can't be worth watching too! You just have to keep an open mind and give 'em a chance.

Because they have no ideas for new ones.
Examples: Texas Chansaw massicure, done in the 80s 90s & now this new one.
House on Haunted Hill: done in the 1930s 50s probably the 70s & the more recent ones.
House of Wax: also done in the 1930s 50s & a few others I can't remember.
If you are looking for one that has no remake I can accually tell you one.
It is called "Dr. Phibes" It was made back in the late 1970s. The main star is Vincent Price.

Ugh! Most of them are WAAAAAAAY worse than the original! I mean, Texas Chainsaw Massacre was so much more frightening than the remake!
I agree they need to be stopped. Hopefully they won't try to remake The Sound of Music, Gone With the Wind, or The wizard of Oz.

It's the same reason they do adaptations of so many books.
Actually twp primary reasons....
1st.....They get a built in audience of the fans of that film/book. Or at least that's the idea...it's a pre-existing target audience that needs minimal marketing to interest.....
2nd....It's a lot easier then coming up with original ideas. Those take time. And how many things can you really do in a horror film that haven't aready been done to death? Not that much room for innovation.

Gore and Special computerized effects that they didn't have 20 years ago. Plus old horror movies kids of todays generation will have no clue what they are. Come on ask any teenager and they probably have never seen Poltergeist or The Shining, Children of the Corn, or Cujo. It's new to them, and then money is made.

I honestly think they shouldn't, though.
Classiscs are classics because they are classics...
Remaking would only spoil the experience.
Horror movies are not the only victim, you know.
I'm still pissed off by the Alien vs Predator movie.
Predator is already awesome as it was!

Because the demand is there. If people would stop going to see these movies, then they will lose money and stop making them. The fact that they keep making them means people are paying to see them. Everything in this world is about supply and demand.
