I think you're missing the proper codec. Are you using Windows Media Player? You can, but you need licensed DVD software installed to view DVDs, regardless of which player is used.

if the dvd is the video dvd,then i think after you install cyberlinkpower dvd then is ok already
if the dvd you mean is the movie data file then u should install klite codec or storm codec

You probably just need the codec. Go to www.divx.com and download the codec pack for free.

just downlooad WinDVD or DVD Player named somftware from
http://downloads.com u can use trial version.....download is free
u will get all Codec with this software....no need to install different code
