hmmm...well, depending on your personal circumstance, I would have to say that you would definitely need some professional advice from a counsellor or therapist.
You need to look within to find what conflicts you're battling, inside you (mentally) and work from there. It's like peeling back the layers (much like an onion), and get to the core of your problems, and start working from the core, outwards, until you've reached a point in your life where you feel comfortable where you are, and you are confident in your decisions, and with your life. Make ammends with those around you, that you may have not had the opportunity to, in the past.
Remember, we're all human, and will make mistakes. It's how we learn from those mistakes that will determine how our life is played out.
Be honest with yourself, and true to who you are. Don't be someone you're not, and deal with the demons you may have, stored inside you.

You need to be stable INSIDE because on the outside life will never be perfectly stable. I find that attending a church and persuing a relationship with God works for me.

a ship has a rudder, think of stability as the rudder that grows longer and deeper on your journey. then know you rudder may hit something and break and need repair. thats stability
