Would they say: I am only doing "my job." or I am just doing it "for the money," or I am only "speaking for my client" or "I have to do this because my client asked me to?" I suppose there are many justifications, but when a lawyer attacks and potentially causes lasting harm to other human beings in order to "succeed", are they not in fact responsible?

With this question, you seem to imply that lawyers shouldn't "be evil and hurt others...in order to succeed". Whether or not they actually do this is debatable, but lets assume for a second you're right, and they do. If a guilty man is on trial for murder, isn't it better that he is fully interrogated by the prosecution? Imagine if the man weren't interrogated. The jury wouldn't realize he was a guilty, and a murderer would be free. Surely, a man guilty of murder deserves imprisonment. Lets say the man is innocent, but still on trial. Isn't it better for him to be interrogated and prove his innocence, than to not interrogate him and risk his guilt?
Secondly, Evil? For every lawyer arguing a position you consider Evil, there is another arguing the opposite position. That is how our justice system works. If the second lawyer's position is the opposite of evil, then it must be good, correct? Which means I could make the statement "Do lawyers have to be good and help others..." just as easily as you can make your statement.
How would you have our justice system work? Perhaps you could judge who is guilty and who is innocent, who is evil and who is good. Except that would be a difficult position to explain to God also, wouldn't it? In Numbers God specifically warns against an individual judging others. However, a jury is a group of people, peers chosen to ensure justice.
Put down lawyers all you like. But you remember all you've said when you need a will prepared, or defense in court, or any of the thousands of reasons people need lawyers assistance.

Conscience is what yo want the lawyer to have during their fight for the justice that their client deserves. And in doing so, it would foolish not to question the integrity of the other sides as in relation to their clients. So, what ever the case may be, justice must prevail as the Judge will see to it that the evil one will have the consequences.

Yes they have to face all the evil they do. It is there choice whether to handle a case or not. And if they know that they are going to damage or long lasting harm, in order to succeed. Then when they answer to our Lord in the heavens he or she Will be responsible and so Will the person that had it done. We all make our choices and we all have to pay for our sins if we commit them.

Don't be too judgmental. The legal profession is noble. Lawyers are generally well-respected, reasonable and smart. True, there are some who are dishonest but there are very few of those. There are those good ones around you. Please try to focus on them and watch how they sacrifice their time, effort and sometimes even endangering their own lives in order to help other people.

My lawyer fought like hell to keep my daughter by my side when my ex wife was trying to take her and move away so I couldn't see her anymore. I wanted like hell to fight and drag my ex through the mud, but he insisted on "fighting the good fight". We prevailed and I am happy that we did so without having to get dirty. I'll never tell another lawyer joke again.
