what ever happened to good movies geting the oscars?

in 2000 Green Mile got robbed of its oscars by a terrible movie called American Beauty.. That movie deserved nothing but rasberry's or whatever those are called they give to the worst movies.

Since then we continue to see nothing but Soap Opera type movies geting oscars.

Chicago was another OK movie but not worth the oscars it got.

and this year again not a thing on the list I would give the oscarsd to either.
I could name at least a dozen better movies from 2006 then those nominated.

Why cant we get back to where oscars are given to the right movies?

I think it's more of a "Not what you know but who you know."

It's get's more and more boring every year and their rating's were down. That's why they had Chris Rock one year host.

I agree with you though. Except for American Beauty. I watched that movie about at least 50 X's and it totally changed my life.

I agree, these movies that get oscars are usually not worth the price of admission, let alone the time wasted in viewing them. What about that boring Chariots of fire movie that came out ages ago? I can sleep comfortably at home. That's why I ususally don't go see movies that the critics say are "must sees".

It's very rare that an actual good movie ever wins the Oscar. Past winners like 'Chariots of Fire', 'The Quest For Fire', ect... just didn't do it for me either. Usually, popular movies get left out in favor of that movie release in December just in time to be nominated but not enough time for enough people to see it and get the word out that it sucks. lol

It's because 'hollywood' doesn't make any 'real good movies' anymore. It's all about the $$ and the 'art' has fallen by the wayside. Unfortunately, we, the public, will go see the junk they put out because our STARS are in them (T Cruise, B Pitt, etc.al). So I guess we get what we deserve. As for American Beauty, I took my husband to see that movie the day his brother died. It was awful. I felt terrible. I had no idea that movie would be so depressing.

1970s Great movies
1980s not so much
1990s Great movies
2000s not so much

However American Beauty was great. So was Gladiator (2001). Overall, though, this decade SUCKS!

(music too!)
