My experiences of Australia are it is an absolutely fantastic country to visit. People, can sometimes be a bit rough round the edges, but that doesn't matter. The weather can be blisteringly hot, depends on the climate you're used to. It is an amazingly versatile country - full of wide open spaces, relatively untouched. I really could not recommend the country enough!

I'a Brit who is in Townsville, Queensland for 7 months and I have visited here 6 times before.
Australia is mostly somewhere between good and excellent. The Australians that I have met are mostly polite, interesting and interested witty and speak to the point.
Food is mostly excellent quality at prices which stagger a UK resident, ($25 forTWO legs of lamb, $25 a kilo for best and I mean good beefsteak)
Roughly speaking $25 = 10 pounds
Their shopping malls are superb (2 pairs of Levi's for $100 i.e.40 quid)
Their provision of sporting facilities leaves one amazed but understanding why they produce superb athletes.
So far so good.
They care, generally, for the environment, but have a love affair with big engined cars, and petrol is ludicrously cheap by European standards but there is a hell of a row when prices go up. They live on the driest continent on earth and are desperately short of water, but every house has sprinklers going 3 times a week to keep the lawns green.
And there is this odd feeling I get in Townsville, that I am in a strange world consisting of the superbly athletic, and in the case of the young women superbly lovely, and the incredibly fat. Look, I come from South Wales and we have some serious fatties there, but I reckon Townsville leads the world in this department.
But over all I love it, and were I younger I would be moving heaven and earth to come out here permanently.
One last thing, I am not sure that Australians really understand how lucky they are, but that's not too bad a fault is it?

Love the accent. Love the famous folks you've given the world. Love the animals. Land looks amazing. Never met an Aussie I didn't have a blast with. Why do you wonder?
Don't worry, we're too busy messing up the middle east to head Down under!!

I live in Sydney. Australia. Metropolitan, friendly, multicultural, great health care system, great landscape, beaches, Sydney Harbour, diverse nightlife, great food, shopping and entertainment.
Lots of Americans observe that Sydney is a cross between San Francisco and New York.

. Bloody hot today down under mate! Quite a relax place to live, if you like the beach and don't mind being away from the crowd.
