Schools in India have kids from vast differences in financial backgrounds attending. Most of them have all kids wear uniforms to school. But there are Saturdays when they are allowed casual wear and on those days, kids indulge in wearing their "best" clothes! i have heard parents complain and ask the school to enforce the uniform on all days.

But my son goes to a school which believes in school being an other home, and they are allowed to dress casual (but are given strict rules as not to wear revealing, expensive and clothes which have offensive wordings). This system has been working pretty well for the past 30 years in this school and i have not heard of any jealousy, rebellious behavior or gang activity. And i have seen most of the kids and teachers wearing khadi and cotton and a person wearing synthetics or fancy clothing will be a misfit among them.

But i still believe that kids going to school must focus on getting to school, rather than picking out clothes for school. Uniforms would be big help for the moms too as they dont have to keep on updating the clothes closet for their growing child!

I don't think there should be a uniform policy for students. It doesn't reduce bullying like they say, especially because at one end of the spectrum you've got a kid in a white dress shirt and navy blue slacks and on the other end you've got a kid in a white t-shirt and navy blue jogging pants. It doesn't hide a family's financial standing, so kids are still picked on. They also say kids in uniforms are better behaved and after working a year in an elementary school that requires uniforms, I learned that just isn't true. They're' the same kids, only in uniform. Uniforms are pointless. They don't change the ways kids act and they only hamper the child's creativity.

I like wearing school uniform. I live in Australia, as well, and it just makes life easier. You don't have to worry about what clothes ur gonna wear the next day, whether the clothes ur gonna wear is appropriate for the subjects ur doing at school etc.

Having all students wear a uniform does prevent one group of students from ostracizing another group of students based on their clothes. On the other hand, having all students wear a uniform robs them of their individuality.

Considering that we now have kids getting killed over their shoes or because they wore a red t-shirt, I think it's a good idea. They can wear their cool clothes at home.

I AGREE IT ROBS THEM OF THERE INDIVIDUALITY TOO BUT THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY TO SPICE IT UP.

I HATED UNIFORMS IN SCHOOL BUT THEN AGAIN I NEVER HAD TO WORRY ABOUT WHAT I WAS GOING TO WEAR THE NEXT DAY.......
TO MAKE IT LOOK LESS LIKE A UNIFORM I WOULD WEAR DIFFERENT COLOR SHIRTS UNDER IT AND MATCH IT WITH MY SHOES AND HAIR ACCESSORIES
I THINK THEY HELPS YOU GET MORE CREATIVE WITH YOUR CLOTHING

No I don't. You get one time in your life when you can wear and look how you want to. They dont need to take that away from kids. Kids need to be able to be kids.
