So when the furnace kicks on every ~20 minutes or whatever, right as it does it makes a high-pitched squealing noise. Do I need to re-prime it, or is it something else. It seems like the noise turns off pretty quickly again.

Sounds like the fan belt. -Yes, it's the same as the fan belt in your car! It's probably loose, so when the motor starts, it slips on the fan pulley, and causes that squeal. Once the fan picks up speed, the squealing stops. The fan comes on intermittently, along with the heater, so each time the heat comes on, it's another start-up and a squeal for the fan belt.

Not many furnaces now days have fan belts but are direct to the motor. If there is a belt it may need tightening or, the motor needs adjusting (tightening) this should be done right away before something wears. The bearings are another main problem. If this is the case your going to have to change the bearings on the motor.
