ok well derek jeter is like the best one on the team.hes shortstop and is the captain of the team.best clutch player.a-rod plays third base.pretty good player although not good enough for the amount of money he is making.has good at bats.although he doesnt do so well in the playoffs.jorge posada is the catcher.a few pitchers are andy pettitte (pretty good one just left the huston astros to come back and pitch for the yanks again) mariano rivera(very good closer) mike mussina, in the outfield theres johnny damon(very good player)bobby abreau, hideki matsui, and kevin reese.bernie williams used to play outfield for them.well the yanks have the most world series wins ever.i think its like 27.have the highest payroll out of the mlb.biggest rivals are the boston redsox.there is speculation that roger clemmens might sign back with the yanks this season.

Ok for starters ignore the ten things about Jeter being MVP over Morneau because that is Yankee fan talking there was not one reason.
If you are trying to impress a Yankee fan just stroke his ego, tell him they are the best team ever and don't argue because it would be pointless.
If you are talking to a non Yankee fan you tell the truth, they are attempting to destroy baseball by forking out double the amount of money the next closest team does to try and bye a championship, but all those ego's on one team is just killing come playoff time when they play a team with heart, ie Tigers, Marlins, and Red Sox.
They do have one of the best all around players in the league in Derek Jeter, Joe Torre there manager is the most over rated manager in baseball(how do u not win with an all star team as your roster).

If you want to know about the Yankees you should first understand the history because basically they have the most successful past in all of American sports. Here's a start
Babe Ruth=The Sultan of Swat, considered the greatest player in the history of baseball
Lou Gehrig=The Iron Horse, played in more consecutive baseball games then anyone until his record was recently broken by Cal Ripken, the only reason he had to stop playing is because he caught ALS also known as the Lou Gehrigs disease and his body broke down. Known to be one of the finest players ever and gave a famous speech where he claimed to be "the luckiest man on the face of the Earth" even when he knew that he was dying.
Joe Dimaggio=Yankee Clipper-considered to be one of the best centerfielders ever, hit in 56 consecutive baseball games, considered to be the most unbreakable of all baseball records and married to Marilyn Monroe-
Theres a good start

Yankees are the biggest bandwagon team in sports. "Other than team Brazil at the FIFA World Cup". And alot of the points that I would say about them have already been said. Fact of the matter is,,,, I don't like them. The remind me of the Toronto Maple Leafs

...is this to impress a guy??
-----------------------------------------
Biggest Stars
Derek Jeter - Shortstop - Team Captain
-Clutch player. Great team leader. Incredible in the playoffs. Probably should have won the American League MVP last season.
Alex Rodriguez - Third-Base
-Prima Dona. Highest paid player in baseball. Puts up solid numbers, but not good enough for $25 million a year. Chokes when it counts. Played awful defense last season. May opt out of contract after 2007 and hit free agency.
Mariano Rivera - Closer
-Lights out. Greatest closer in the history of the game.
...those are probably the three biggest "stars"
Roster...
C-Jorge Posada
1B-Doug Mint-kay-vich (that's phonetic so you can pronounce it!)
2B-Robinson Cano (INCREDIBLE HITTER)
SS-Derek Jeter
3B-Alex Rodriguez (often called A-Rod)
LF-Hideki Matsui
CF-Johnny Damon
RF-Bobby Abreu
DH-Jason Giambi
SP-Mike Mussina
SP-Andy Pettite
SP-Chen Mieng-Wang
SP-Carl Pavano
SP-Kai Igawa
CL-Mariano Rivera
Manager-Joe Torre
Bench Coach-Don Mattingly
The team tends to get a bad rap for outspending the competition (which they generally do), but they have a rabid fan-base nonetheless.
Their biggest nemesis is the Boston Red Sox.
That should cover all the basics.
If you're trying to impress a guy, just tell him how much you hate the Red Sox and how A-Rod sucks in October and that'll probably get it done. If you can acurately describe ten ways that Jeter deserved the MVP more than Justin Morneau...odds are the dude will marry you.

keep an open mind when learning about the Yankees, read about both sides of the history, read a book called Yankee's Suck by Jim Gerard, it is funny and it will let you know they are not always perfect, or what they think is perfect.

Sounds like you want to impress a guy who is a Yankees fan. My first bit of advice would be to be honest with him and tell him that you don't know much about the Yankees (and baseball too if that's the case).
Anyway, for the best information, I'd recommend going to the following websites to learn more about the team:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Yankees
http://www.yankees.com/

Over priced team, the whole league hates them: Arod wines, jeters a playa', cano is ok, giambi has a ugly scar on his face, matsui looks 85yrs old, damon is a trater, abrue took sheffields job, pettiete looks "G", rivera looks like a monk with that bald spot on the top of his head, and farnworht cant hold a lead. but in there history they've won 26 titles...

I can tell you one thing about The NY Yankees.
They have NOT won a world series in the 21st century.
EDIT:
I can also tell you another thing about The NY Yankees.
In 2004, against The Boston Red Sox, in the ALCS they had a 3-0 game lead in a best of 7 series---AND LOST!
It is well documented to be THE BIGGEST CHOKE IN THE HISTORY OF ALL SPORTS!
