Homosexuals have been found to have different brain activity than heterosexuals. There IS also a correlation of relatives that are homosexuals, so there is some basis of gene theory.
Homosexuals are only bad for people who feel threatened by anything other than the norm.
(What is the norm anyway?)
If you are comfortable with who you are, no one "different" will bug you.
No, I do not believe homosexuality is a bad thing.

This might sound like splitting hairs, but you can't think about any trait in an organism (homosexuality or wings or whatever) as being FOR some purpose. All of those traits are the RESULT of selection pressures working on a large population of a species over time. The first way of looking at it assumes that evolution is an active thing that "wants" a certain out come, the second way views evolution as the passive end result.
I think that research into a genetic cause for homosexuality is a way of searching for some sort of reason to explain something that people really shouldn't have to explain. I think the danger in the well meaning science behind the search for a genetic explaination is that anyone with a genetic predisposition to some behavior could be classified as having a genetic defect. It's a way for people on one side of the issue to absolve themselves of responsibility and for people on the other side to catagorized homosexuals as flawed or in need of a cure. The same way we are searching for a cure for the genetic condition of cystic fibrosis, we could be compelled to "fix" people who are otherwise perfectly happy with the way they were born.
This gotten to be a more political answer than scientific, I'm sorry. But I think it's an important lens to look at the biological question through.

Homosexuality is god's way of showing people what ignorant, evil bigots they are. Such people do not get into heaven - they could not even find the door.
More seriously, it is ubiquitous (it is found in all higher animal species), it does not confer survival disadvantage (for instance, in humans male homosexuals are statistically more prone to STDs and female ones dramatically less prone), does not prevent reproduction (the bits still work - its only social pressure that gets in the way).
Moralising about things that are fundamental to people's make up is about as low as you can get - it shows no moral foundation to a persons life at all. After all, the Catholic Church used very similar arguments to promote and benefit from slavery by deuhumanising black people for over two centuries.

No not at all it is a part of nature, found in all life forms from humans to sheep to birds. Also it is not just about sex it is also about love and when one falls in love with the member of the same gender. The only bad thing about it is the response of those who dislike or fear them not too mention the reaction of some religious persons. For those who say it is bad, they might bear in mind that in the past many similar aurguments were made relating to folks of different skin colors, religons, and cultures from people who believed they were better.

I think that you cannot choose your sexuality. Although I do believe that maybe the way you were raised (Nature vs. Nurture) could have a role in it.
We can't just choose who we like or are attracted to. I won't go, 'oh, everyone likes that guy, I guess I like him too' and then suddenly develop feelings for him.
If we could, why would anyone dare to go against what is considered acceptable by the majority of the population?

It is definitely a bad thing. Homosexuals die significantly younger, they are more prone to sexual transmitted diseases like AIDS, hepatitis etc... they have social issues, and their homosexual preference doesn't allow for reproduction.
Sounds like you are trying to rationalize something that your body wasn't designed for... stop doing it and turn to God and His better plan.
Why would it matter if it was a genetic defect? So are certain susceptibilities to diseases like diabetes, cancer and alcoholism. The genome is not evolving like people think. It's degenerating from something that was better.
Think about it.
If it was genetic, and if evolution were true, then there would be no more homosexual tendencies resulting from the gene pool. Natural selection would have eliminated them because homosexuals don't reproduce (ie. they don't add to the gene pool).
The only hope is to trust in God.
Read the book "Genetic Entropy & The Mystery of the Genome" - Dr John C. Sanford.

me either. don't see why people make such a big deal if someone is homosexual. i think it's normal. they choose who they want to be with. and they want to be with the same sex. i don't think that they got up one day and said you know i want to be gay. i think they were born that way. i have heard that they do have gay genes. it's quite normal to be gay.the people that are gay if they knew that this would hurt their families why would they do it. that's my whole point they can't help it. they want not to do it but at the same time they can't not do it.

i think youre born gay, so yes, it can be part of your genetic code. The body, dna and the brain are too complex and anything is a posibility.

i don't think its a gene, but i do believe we are born with our sexuality and have to discover what it is
you are what you are, and no matter what, that is the way God made you, therefore you are perfect
