First off, what is the price comparison for a chain link fence and a privacy fence? What are some average prices for both? Would you recommend one of those two, or is there another type of fence you prefer? Is it cruel to puppies to not have a fence where they can look out?

The chain link is cheaper, and the dogs would be extremely bored without being able to see out.

A privacy fence is about two to three times the cost of a similar length and height fence in chain link.
You can get current prices from either a contractor or a place like The Home Depot.
You can insert plastic or metal slats into the chain link to provide more privacy. Personally, I prefer the privacy fence as it is traditional and provides a visual barrier as well as a physical barrier.
Puppies don't know the difference..

First, the cruelty question. You could also ask yourself "Is it cruel to have a puppy?" The dog doesn't need to look out beyond the yard. Give it attention and love and it will be fine.
the fence... The chain link fence will be cheaper than any other fence you might consider. I prefer a 4' fence that would allow me to talk to the neighbors but this might be tempting for the dog to jump.
You also need to keep in mind the look of your neighborhood. What do other neighbors have?
Make sure you build a fence that either looks good from both sides or puts the finished side out.

I can't help you with prices althoug I believe chain link is cheaper first you have to decide how much privecy you want and if you do decide to go with chain link are their passer byers that will tease the dogs because thats cruel if thats the case a privecy would be best
