The email from AOL saying that my friend (he used AOL) is no longer registered with the site cuz he died tragically. It said that he died tragically in gunfire. How does someone find out if the tragady is true? Plz, it so important that I be able to find out the truth. They said that it happened in Iraq. I know my friend's name & his home address & his cellphone number, but no answer when I have called his cell. I don't know family so I can't ask them. I live in a differenet state then he did.

How would I get to the government defence web site to see if his name is listed? Just typing that in isn't coming up with anything.

I am not sure that AOL would do something like that. I would email their customer service and ask them if they do.
It would be really mean of someone to make up something like that just to blow you off...
Is there an option to reply to that email?
I would email member services for sure.

I don't think AOL would know the details of his personal business. And I'm almost positive it would not be able to give that information out to anyone else. Someone is probably playing avery nasty and distasteful trick on you

AOL would not be sending an email telling you that someone died!!! Delete it and forget about it. Some idiot probably got ahold of your friend's address book.

I agree. AOL does not notify people of a death. Someone is playing a cruel joke on you. Notify AOL about it. spam@aol.com
