Girl Baby
Looking at my mother
Who held me in her arms,
Out from her womb
The moment when I came,
I cried in joy.
With glistening tears she showered me
With love and kisses,
She held me to her heart
I heard her heartbeat,
Only to be taken away,
By a pair of rough hands
To breathe my last,
As I am a girl!
Kamal M.
This poem of mine describes the feelings of a Mother when her girl child is taken away resulting in female infanticide.
This social evil can be eradicated only when
1,Women are educated and Empowered socially, economically and politically.
2. The Dowry system is abolished from our society.
3. Women are given equal rights, in Ancestral property, and her father's and her mother's Property,
4. Women are made aware of their rights, by giving them legal literacy.
5.Women are respected by women and men.
6. There should be 100% literacy of women.
7. The mindset of society should change--Women should be allowed to work after marriage by her husband and inlaws.
8. A daughter should be allowed to do the last rites of her parents.
9. Husband should allow his wife to keep her maiden name if she so wishes. (In many parts of India men feel that their name has to carried on by the boy child)
10.why do you talk about 33% reservation for women, why not equal as men.
Finally The father and the Mother should feel proud to have a girl child.
( my- daughter- in law keeps her maiden name and our daughter has been given an equal share in the ancestral property. I love my son and daughter equally and am proud of both. )

Reservation per se is not going improve the lot of the sections of the society for whom it is intended. Your argument that female infanticide will be stopped if women are given adequate representation. No body kills the female baby wanting adequate representation. All those who advocate for women representation in Parliament belong to the upper middle class, who want to taste power, by hook or crook. I never stop respecting my mother and loving my wife and girl children, simply because there is no representation in the legislature for women.

I have heard about infanticide in India and in China.
I have posted links concerning infanticide and dowry murder.
I have heard about the mobile clinics with the sales pitch .."spend 300 rupees now....save 20,00 rupees later". In other words.....kill the female child so as to not incur burden of dowry in future.
And ...just by chance...the other day...I heard another down side to female infanticide.......
shortage of females is going to increase sex slavery and forced prostitution. The luring of females with promises of employment type of thing.
That whole dowry thing needs to be dumped....made illegal.
I can't understand why these countries have these ancient "Cultural practices" that they just cling to and cling to.
Is that a special form of mental retardation?
Can't they reason?
They can't see that they might be better off without some of this cultural baggage?
Cultural practices aren't in the DNA.
And they are not hard wired in the brain.
So I can't see why they can't see why these are not good practices.
AND ....having the male to female ratio out of whack like that....IT JUST AIN'T GOOD. Gonna cause even Bigger Problems.

The murder of your children will only stop when your country and its leaders realize they will never been seen as more than barbarians in the eyes of other cultures and societies because of this atrocity against infants.
Murdering female infants is not a "social evil." It is a horrendous violent crime. Crime has never been deterred by victims being required to "prove themself." That is ludicrous and offensive to suggest.

Kudos to Kamal M for giving one of he most well thought of answers in Y! Answers. Theres nothing much that I can add to her beautiful poem & answer except to object to your first line which implies that being born a woman I have to 'prove' myself worthy of existance by transforming myself to an asset. Just the fact that I'm alive is justification for my existance & I dont need any male evaluating my existance. Who are you ??

Female infanticide will continue so long as the extreme poverty that plagues India does. Once poverty is lessened, the country will be able to focus on bettering people's lives with improved health care, education, etc,. Too many people, too few resources.

What more do they have to do to prove themselves? Look what they accomplish without any help! Only when government steps in to force men to stop the violence, will there be any change.
