It could be for a variety of reasons. If your power supply is faulty or insufficient for all the equipment you've added, this can cause the crashes and shutdowns you've experienced.
It's also quite possible that you've contracted a virus or malicious software of some kind. Viruses can do these things, too.

two major things could be wrong. First off, it may be your processor is overheating and freezing/ shutting down. Second, which would be the more likely option, it is you power supply going out. Have no fear, it sounds expensive, but you can buy them online for about 30 or 40 bucks for a common ATX 300-400 watt power supply. Hope this helps.

That used to happen to me all the time, I thought it was because of a virus, but really it was just my computers fan. My computer kept getting over heated so I just put a little something underneath it so that it was slightly tilted. It really worked, it doesn't shut down anymore! ^_~

its probably a power supply problem. they are pretty cheap, and you can get one for under $50. just make sure, if you do buy one, that you either match the wattage, or get a higher wattage than the one you currently have. oh, and if its a laptop, try a new battery.

Well, this may be a longshot, but you might have a spirit messing around with it. It would make sense, because spirits consist of energy. It's common that they do things with electricity.
