I have a pet ball python for 3 and a half years... I've been calling it Potter for so long, but every time I thought about it, I feel guilty, because i have no idea what's its gender, is there any way to tell without consulting a vet?

If you have a local reptile store or some petstore they will have a snake probe and most of the time they will do it for free..

For 100% certainty, your snake has to be probed. THIS SHOULD -ONLY- BE DONE BY A QUALIFIED PERSON!!! I would feel much more comfortable myself paying for a vet visit if I wasn't absolutely sure how qualified my local pet store was.

Also, though, and a little less stressful for your snake, if you know someone who has a similar sized ball python as yours that was purchased with the knowledge of male or female, compare tail length. Some pet stores breed their own ball pythons, so that would be a safer pet store check than probing.

look at their tail. usually the tail of a femal is more long and slender. also, their little claws near their butt will be smaller. a male will have larger pelvic claws and a shorter, stubbier tail. it is usually best to compare to another snake the same age and confirmed gender. also, any reptile or pet store can sex your snake for you. even petco, just ask if someone there knows how because you don't want someone inexperienced to do it as it could harm your python. good luck!

Go to your local vet and find out

Sorry but thats the easiest way to tell, cause you really need to know what you are doing if you are checking the gender of reptiles

You can check near the end of the tail for the opening of the anus then if you see something like little penis around it (2 of them) its male, if you dont see such a thing, female

Best way is to go to your vet cause you also need to have one incase of emergency ;)

you can tell but it is difficult ifyou do not have a comparison. Onthe underneath near the tip of the tail there are two 'claws'. A female feels sort of hallow in that area whereas a male is more solid.

All you do is flip the snake over on its back..when its butthole is there are what looks like small spikes sticking out..if there is only one its a male..if there is two its a female..Good Luck
