I would get the free disk, but DO NOT upgrade until windows vista service pack 1 comes out in about 6 months, because that fixes a some of the issues in it. Service pack 1 will be a free download from Microsoft, or it may be available free on CD, but before service pack 1 is out it will be unstable so wait a while before you install it.

Vista is not a problem. They wouldn't know becuase it comes out in two days. Yes, you could download it, but keep in mind that it may still have a few bugs that will be later installed via windows update. It won't be problems, just security holes. Make sure you have a firewall and antivirus you should be fine. I would upgrade to it, especially because it is free with your computer. I just bought a $1800 computer, but I bought it a month before the upgrade was available.
