I am looking to buy a good set of make up brushes. I want to know what are some basic ones that everyone should own. I'm not interested in lip brushes... but definitely blush, and eyeshadow.

My favorites are my MAC brushes. I have several, and I really like the 213 (basic fluff brush), the 224 (blending brush) and 272, which is an angled blending brush (I think that's right). The 224 I love because it blends so well, and the 224 because of the angle - it makes it easy to get to the corners of my eyes.

There's a very comprehensive brush review on makeupaddict.org.

Well basic would depend on what you do and what you need. However I can tell you that Sephora makes the best eye brushes and face brushes. From there you just need to figure out what you will need most.
I know it's a rather random answer but each person will need different things. What might be a staple to me may not work best for you. I like round lip brushes but you could like square. A blush brush will depend on your face shape. You may not need as round tipped of a one as I use.

I would suggest going to Sephora and asking for help with the blush brush. They can help find one that is just right for your face.

MAC has really good brushes but they are on the expensive side. The up side to that is they last along time though. You won't be throwing them out in a month or so. Another suggestion is Bobbi Brown. They have really good blush brushes. I can't say about eyeshadow because I have never used them. Also clinque is another good option.

Makeup brushes are a must in any woman's makeup drawer. You can find a range of prices for your brushes. Be prepared to spend upwards of $250 for the best brushes on the market. Here, we give you the best options in the affordable and pricey categories.

Keep in mind you don't have to spend a ton of money on a makeup brush. Acrylic ones actually are easier to clean than the brushes made from fancy animal (sable, pony, squirrel, goat and badger) fibers. But the pricey ones will last you forever.

1. mac
2. shu uemura
3. bobbi brown
thats all. nothing more nothing less. if anything please try to go for mac or shu uemura first. they are of pro quality ad are long lasting. they serve the purpose they are made for. you will be getting the quality and performance you are looking for. please do not use synthetic brushes or sponge tip applicators. sponge tip applicators just pull on the skin and don't really blend well. look for brushes made from sable or squirrel hair. you can find lots of these at the local art supply store just make sure they are tightly packed in and that no hairs fall out as you brush them on. just make sure that all brushes and sponges don't rest on the surface of the makeup itself when not in use. natural face/skin oils from the brushes can ruin your makeup.also buy a brush cleaner or gentle baby shampoo to clean them with as bacteria easily breeds there.

the basics:
powder brush-foor dusting face powder and shimner
rounded eyeshadow brush-application of base shadow
small rounded eyeshadow brush-for blending shadow
angle brush-to apply eyebrow enhancements
blush brush-for blush
liner brush-to apply cake/gel or customized eyeliner
foundation brush- applies liquid foundation with even coverage but more natural looking than sponge application
fan brush-get rid of excess shadow spillage around the eye area
-also used to apply spa treatments on the face

Trish McEvoy--all of hers are outstanding. Very pricey, but worth it... Her counter help is excellent also.

I also like a lot of Paula Dorfs... But again, not cheap. And can be hard to find...

Mac and Bobbie Brown? Average quality for above average prices--PASS...!

And I agree with SmartDogG--Sonia Kashuk makes some very decent brushes (including sable!) for cut-throat prices at Target!
