I had the HIV one and a total of other four tubes done as well a few weeks ago. I know at 15-20 weeks they draw blood to test for down syndrome and then at 24-28 weeks they can draw blood to test for cystic fybrosis however this one is optional. Those are the only ones i know of. Good luck!

well i am curently in week 38 of my 4th pregnancy and i will tell you my experience....every doctor is different and every pregnancy is different so you need to discuss this with your doctor to be sure. at my first visit they sent me for HIV, bloodtype, hormone levels , STDs......and a bunch of stuff like that and drew out 5 tubes. At 16-18 weeks alot of doctors (if you consent) do a triple marker test ...this is to test for some common genetic abormalities (like down syndrome) they do it at this stage becasue if you have a pos result they can do an amniocentesis and if there is a problem with your baby you can still choose to abort (most states limit abortions to 20 weeks) then if it is your first pregnancy and you have no history of gest. diabetes they will send you at 26-28 weeks for your first glucose test....if this comes back positive a few weeks later you get to do the fun 3 hour glucose test (you get blood drawn about 7 times in a 3 hour period) after that they may test you for things like anemia and such periodically if you show any warning signs for complications.

They took my blood often. Every other visit, maybe, and the visits increased in frequency until they were once a week for the last couple of months.
If giving blood bothers you, wait until the baby comes out! Lol The IV during labor hurt bad, the epidural needle hurt worse than delivery with one of mine, the delivery itself hurt worse than people would admit to me, eventhough the epidural "helped" some. I've had three babies, and always got the epidural, but I wish women would've told me the truth about how much each thing hurt. Oh yeah, the catheter, can't forget that!

You are under your doctor's care, and as such, he will determine how many blood tests you require to protect you and your unborn child.
One thing you can do to ease your concerns is to just directly ask what the blood tests are for each time they take blood. Neither the doctor nor the nurse that draws the blood should have a problem telling you the reason.

I am 24 weeks and have only had my blood drawn once so far at my first visit, 12 weeks ( I passed out, I do not like blood being drawn at all). They said at 26 weeks I will have to have it drawn again. I don't know of any after that, I think it all depends on how healthy you and the baby are and if everything is normal. Congrats!

I am 23 weeks and have gone to get blood taken twice. Once at 9 weeks, and also a few weeks ago. Both times they took about 5 tubes.

It depends, I was anemic during my pregnancy so I got blood tests at almost every visit to check my iron levels. Then I was in Germany during the beginning of my pregnancy and they tested for more stuff than they did when I got to the states. But you shouldn't need many more blood tests.

If you have a normal pregnancy you shouldnt have to have it done too often.. maybe 3-5 times... but if they get worried about anything.. get ready to roll up them sleeves.. they will constantly be checking you... I got blood test like every 2 weeks...

Let's see, there's the one you mentioned.
Then one when you have your glucose test.
The finger prick to test for anemia. (this was actually the most painful of them all, more nerve endings in the fingers)
One last set of labs at the end of your pregnancy.
That's if everything is fine.
I had to have the finger prick anemia test twice (the second time to make sure the iron supplement was working)
If the first glucose tests comes back high then you have to have another one of those.
