My old computer (R.I.P) was virus-ridden. Of course all my tracks in my MP3 player came from the recently deceased pc (Note: they no longer play since I've cancelled my napster music subscription). I plan on formatting the mp3 player as soon as I get the new pc. But can that potentially transmit a virus to the new pc? What should I do?

Most MP3 players have software built in to format. Use that instead of formatting from your computer. The software in the MP3 player will format it so that it will be readable. I have heard stories of people who formatted with their computer and it made the MP3 player unuseable.

Answer this if you upload a virus, and download a virus, and you store a virus, will the virus not lay dormant in any program, and wait for it to be opened again. Yes, the potential threat of the same virus's inhabiting the new computer is HIGH. If you wish to put these song's on your new computer, I would suggest you purchase MSN'S Live software, or Norton's full version software, and install it first, that way when you do try to install your prior computers MP3 downloads any potential virus they may have will hopefully be scanned out, and quarantined. The better answer to all this is do what my friend does by a large size usb external/or internal permanent HD 160 or above, which is cheap and only use it for your music, and buy your Cd's, make a library, and compose your own music MP3. The Cd's you purchase stay new forever, and you can mix your MP3's in a virus free environment. Then only download things you see on-line to your main drive for safe scanning, prior to transfer to the external HD. This way if any virus does get through they will not be there, and not in your music, and if I'm not mistaken the new radios support usb, so you could just take the HD and connect it to the radio, and listen to them ALL from your HD, and there are a few radios for cars that do, AND fairly inexpensive, or if its just for the portable MP 3 player, then you know your safe either way, and your enjoyment of music will be hopefully a Joy.
