Scientists in India are not treated like that in developed countries, they are not provided enough facilities, they are not free to work as there are various pressures from society and the masses pay more recognition to a men working in some public relation office like police, judiciary, bureaucrats etc. Still we work to our maximum potential but again our promotion oppurtunities are clouded under political interference and scientific manpower in unfortunately managed by ignorant politicians and bureaucrats---------highly unfortunate----------India has to rise to these problems ----otherwise we will lead nowhere??????????

What about the USA? Basketball players get far more money and recognition than scientists. But, our country still attracts the best and brightest from around the world. For India to come up in research it has to become a country that people would like to emmigrate to. Then the $ will come and the results will improve.

If Sree.Vikram Sarabhai or Sree.H.J.Bhaba or H.E.The Prseident of India,Sree.A.P.J Abdul Kalam and many hundreds of unsung heroes thought the same way , where would Indian Technological Advancement stand today. We are a developing country and our resources are limited but our potentials are unlimited.Only if we realise this can we surge ahead in any field in India or the world to be more precise.
Common Men like me have great respect for scientists of India. We look up to them as torch bearers of Indias' Future.

A man excelling in a sport say cicket or a celebrity in a chat show might get popular overnight...and so will their status bite the dust ...overnight too.

But a Sceinist who contributes to this nation and the world will remain immortal for generations to come. Can you tell me the names of 10 sportsmen say of 15th century - 18th century AD.You might need a days research. But if I ask the name of 10 scientists or inventors, names are bound to flood. You sir are the representative of the Future.

As for improving Scientific Research in India, let the Scientific community start interacting with the grassroot of our population-The Common Man. Research on topics that are India Specific and of benefit to the Indias nearly billion villagers.Help revamp the shortcomings of our Educational system so that "we do not end up becoming bookworms " but at the end of the day "start writing books" .
Problems are bound to be there. But solutions abound.Seek and you shall find.

God Bless India by blessing her Scientific Community

Scientists in India don't need the rest of the world's good will.

This is what you need:

Availability of sophisiticated education
Incentives to learn and later develop (that usually means money)

That's it; that's the recipe. People have to be able to get the skills and knowledge to develop new technologies and products, and there has to be an incentive for them to spend the necessary time.

In the US, the government offers one of the best incentives you can have, opportunity to patent your ideas. This is a legal protection for whatever you develop, a protected right to profit from your ingenuity for a short time before releasing the product to the public for competition.

If you open these doors in India, you'll find a portion of a billion people clamouring for them, and any portion of that number would produce some astonishing results.

Our R&D institutions have always been followers and it was confined to some academic interest. There has never been clear objectives and time frame and they don't have any targets. No need to reinvent again on this front. Just look in to the models followed by countries like Finland, Taiwan, Korea etc and we will get the answes.

The truth is most of the brilliant scientists feel that their mind will get corrupt in India.
