I love the name Ruth. There is something about it that seems confident and solid and very feminine. It is uncommon, but not weird and that is good.
However, I hate the name Ann. Its my middle name and its just so...dull. Also, I don't like Ruth Ann as a double first name at all. Sounds frumpy. I'd look for something longer.

A beautiful and stunning classic. Pish posh on the "Baby Ruth" association. If people are willing to name their children "Nevaeh" which has its stripper associations (along with numerous other negative associations and meanings), then Baby Ruth is nothing! Ann is a little too simple for my taste. How about giving Ruth a middle name consisting of a name similar to Ann? Or a variant of Ann? Here's a few:
Ruth Anabel
Ruth Anais
Ruth Anita
Ruth Annegret
Ruth Annelien
Ruth Anneliese
Ruth Annika
Ruth Anoushka

i'm not to crash-hot bout the name, i know its an old fashioned name but first image i get of the name Ruth is of a tough, mannish, sturdy woman. Ruth Ann also doesnt sound good. I would probably be more inclined to put Ruth as a middle name because i really don't see a little girl being thrilled at the thought of being named Ruth.

I like Ruth. It's not too common right now. The first thing that comes to my mind is the biblical Ruth. She was cool. I personally don't care as much for Ruth Ann, though.

It's pretty. All the Ruths I've ever known have been really neat people.
Here's an idea: I substitute taught in a class that had a little girl named Rutha in it. Pronounced just as it looks. Maybe that gives it an updated flair? But plain old Ruth is fine, too.

Ruth is a great name. It's a very strong, biblical name. However, I agree with the person who didn't care for "Ruth Ann". Ruth is more appealing anyway.

My neice is calle Ella Ruth and I think it is really cute....Ruth Anne sounds nice but if you don't like ruth as a first name use it as a middle name. Ruthie is really cute when she is still a baby.

To me, Ruth sounds too old fashioned. If you name her that, kids in school just may call her Baby Ruth. Honestly, I don't like it. But, your opinion is the only opinion that counts.

I think Ruth is a very strong name. I'm not that crazy about Ruth Ann together. If you name her Ruth, then you could nickname her Ruthie. I think Ruthie is really cute.
