It is terrible that you experienced this at 18. I got the news at 22 and was completely shocked and scared. I have also only been with one person (since I was 16 and for almost 8 years now :). He was very supportive and went to my follow up appointment with me to get the bad news. I also have no children. I was referred from the student health center to a local obgyn. They did a biopsy which came back positive for the pre-cancerous cells. Scared me even more and my doctor suggested Leep. I read about it and got even more freaked out. It is not as bad as it seems really. The biopsy seemed to hurt worse.

I went in and got in the gown and on the table. They used the speculum and KY Jelly. Then I avoided my gaze from the syringe I saw was being drawn up and didn't look . The shots inside you on your cervix do hurt, but it is more like a dentist shot (but not as bad - less medicine, but in more spots). Then you feel nothing. The machine is a little loud when they turn it on. It is really a loop that sends a small electrical frequency through it and it cuts through small layers of skin. It stops the bleeding by heat (cauterizing) as it does this. Mine took at the most 5 minutes from shots to finish. I didn't feel the machine, but I knew when it was happening because the machine produces small amounts of smoke from the cauterizing - think less than a candle blown out- and the noise. It was over quick. (Don't look where you sat! The area under me had a little more blood than I expected to see, but it doesn't bother me. Just a little weird knowing it was mine and it didn't really hurt.

I was told take 2 motrin and go home and relax. So I crashed on the couch and watched tv all day. Went out to eat with friends that night (take smooth roads, you will feel a little crampy like a period). I went back to work the next day and didn't do any exercising or heavy lifting until week 4. Wear a pantly liner and expect minor bleeding, some clotty looking discharge, even a little tissue to appear. (Think sunburn of cervix and it needing to create a new layer and get rid of old damaged layer). Two weeks into it, I still avoided a terrible road due to minor uncomfortable feeling, but was told I had healed well after week 4 and cleared for extracurricular activities if I wanted to. Just take it easy the first few times. I have tested ok during the 3 every two month visits I had to have and my first 6 month one after that. I am awaiting my 2nd 6 month visit next week. I only wish Yahoo answers was around during my surgery. I might have been less freaked out. Some cells are just abnormal. I think I was 1 step away from the really pre-cancerous cells though. Before your surgery, ask doctor if a Betadine Douche would be ok, or advised. Another person mentioned it on a message and it seems like a good idea to me. Good luck and carry music-ipod or head phones and try to phase out!

I also got the same diagnosis and procedure done to fix it.
The surgery itself is an outpatient surgery. They will put you under Anesthesia do the procedure. You will wake up feeling groggy and crampy. After a few hours they will probably let you go home if there aren't any complications. They are testing you for HPV just to be on the safe side. You may not have it. Also men can be carriers of this and not know it. I suggest you have your partner checked as well as he could just give it to you again.
since it is moderate it most likely wont come back. You will have to get pap smears more often over the next year or so to keep an eye on it. I never had another problem with it after that one time and im 34 now. The likely hood of this coming back or actually cause cancer later on are pretty minor. since you are having the leep procedure it will eliminate the pre cancerous cells. Its basically a preventative thing. So be glad they caught it right away. And good for you for getting regular check ups.

one answer is not correct. During the leep they use a wire loop to pretty much burn off the tissue on the cervix.good news though you are not put to sleep there are relatively no nerves in that area so it usually pretty painless for me there was some cramping and a little bleeding. If you have HPV and have only been with that one person tell him, some sympomts never show up only on the pap and some can take months- years to show up!. after this you will need to get checkups and paps every 6 months use condoms most of the time it dose cure itself within a year or so but can come back realx not all of it is cancer. they did the biopsy and that told them the best tretment for you was a leep i had one and have had no problems since and this is 6 years. Good luck!
