Some software programs are freeware while some others are shareware. What is the difference? Do we need to pay for the freeware after a trial period?

Shareware asks that you pay if you like and want to keep using the code. Freeware is just that: free.

free is free- you get to use the program as is for no payment

Shareware usually as a time period, limited times you can use it, or certain features are locked until you buy it.

Lots of shareware masquerade as freeware because it will do somethings without buying it- but make you upgrade to get all the things they promised you- and you have to pay for it.

shareware is typically for a trial and if you like it you pay, freeware is free to be distributed used and copied and if you wish you usually can donate something to the author, none of these are open source though typically, unless they are stated to be open source.
