I'm a mechanic, and own a shop, and the answer to your question is; You can do it! As of right now, Edlebrook makes an intake for the 5.3 for a carburetor. It comes in a kit and is expensive. Things to look at is going to be; How to get the fuel pressure under control? Do this with an aftermarket valve and a return line. If it is an automatic transmission, you are going to need some means of running it. You can get all the cables you need from a company called Lokar. You will need to purchase a carburetor. I doubt you will be able to make this thing street legal, due to the emissions, so hope you live in a place where you won't have to have it. Outside of this, everything else is on the market to do the job.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

The Power Control Module cannot be reprogrammed to accept the correct fuel delivery specifications that a 5.3 liter engine needs with a normally aspirated intake system.........

Edelbrock makes an intake manifold, ignition control module, and throttle bracket kit specifically to convert Gen III motors from EFI to carbureted. It includes everything you need minus the carb and the thermostat housing, which they also make, but is sold separately. See link below for details. The kit without carb sells for around $700.00

your truck makes more power and better gas mileage with the fuel injection you should not try to convert it to carburation your truck will not run the computer will not recognize it i suggest gettin a larger throttle body and cold air intake and maybe bigger injectors if u really need the extra fuel to the engine but doubtful you should just upgrade what u have a carb would be a downgrade- they eat gas, make less power and have to be rebuilt and adjusted fule injection is better

if your not happy with the performance get a chip installed and use premium fuel. It will eliminate all the knock and hesitation and it will give you alot more power. I wouldn't trade down to a carb.

you need to see if there is a carb air intake that would fit you engine, then you would need to set up a whole new throttle linkage.
