You'd probably like Neko Case. She sings solo country/folk that's quite modern (not pop-country) and awesome to sing to and has lyrics that are much more intelligent than Jewel's lame, melancholy radio-friendly junk. Try "Things That Scare Me," "Deep Red Bells," and "Stinging Velvet" from the album _Blacklisted_.

Did you want good folksy artists or artists like Jewel? If you want GOOD folksy artists....for the classics....(I'm leaving out the obvious like Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie...stuff everyone already knows)

Joni Mitchell (obviously)
Sandy Denny (has the most amazing voice)
Fairport Convention (Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson)
The Limeliters

for newer....

Aimee Mann
Later Robyn Hitchcock
Some Billy Bragg

I asked a question very similar to this one a few months back- got the same lousy responses....i guess you just cant really compare Jewel to anyone- shes just awesome and no one lives up to her music....Paula Cole is really good though, and i cant remeber the names of who sings these songs, but i came across some really good music like Jewels sorta- i cant remeber thier names though- but the one song is "Sunny Came Hme"- that sounds really good, and the other is "Torn" her last name is very unusually and starts with a "i" , thier two different people though, and Norah Jones! now she has got the voice- her talking voice is so much different from when she sings- it truly amazing- and seems like thats all but thiers more im for sure- i just havent discovered them yet..., but im a huge fan of Jewels- cant wait for that greast hits to come out- who knows when- the most specific they give on a date is early 2007-well that could be the end of may- good grief! lol--j/k- but i love her music and i wish i could find similar artist like her- but thiers just not that many of them- that are publically known that is- so good luck! : )

If you look good ol' traditional American rock n' roll, you can't go wrong with Elvis.
