Is it legal? Where it can be done?
I can't find any info on this :( and my lawyers are asking for _color_ copy for some reason.

I went to Kinkos - they said it's illegal to make _color_ copy, they just do black/white.

You haven't mentioned your nationality, but in any country yes, it's legal, can be done anywhere (Kinkos is good if you're in the US), and is a very good idea - is recommended - for Americans travelling overseas. Until a few months ago, a photocopy supplied by the citizen was sometimes the only evidence an American embassy or consulate had to assure them that the person was indeed an American, if they lost their passport. It's still an excellent idea to carry a copy with you and leave the original in the hotel or room safe.
