Actually, it's simple math. Most songs are about 4 MB (Megabytes) in MP3 format. Since 1 GB (Gigabyte) is 1024 MB, then your answer is 1024 / 4 = 256.

About 250 songs, give or take, for any 1GB MP3 Player.

I have a creative Zen 1 GB player, maybe it is similar to yours? If you create various folders you can put around 500 songs, of course it depends on the size of the songs.

I believe the reason why mine can hold more is because the software that came with the player has an option that you can push "compress music to hold more songs" or something like that. I am not sure what it does, but it sounds like any normal mp3.

it all depends on the quality of the song you store.

for calculating how many songs you can get on a typical MP3 Player i seem to recall the industry standard is to allocate 1 song = 3.5 minutes approximately. (3Minutes:30Seconds per song)

the rate i use is roughly half way between full CD quality and the lowest 32Kbps. I use 128Kbps i find this provides the best balance between quality and file size.
though you could go as low as 32Kbps a theoritical 10% of the highest 320Kbps. it is not to be recomended unless you are happy with poor telphone quality audio.
i hope that helps.
though as an example see my source.

I agree with jake, good quality mp3 files are around 4-5mb each so should hold about 250-260 odd tunes.
